Engineering community unites for Tomorrow’s Engineers Week

Nov 7, 2023 Manufacturing

Today marks the first day of Tomorrow’s Engineers Week 2023 (6 to 10 November 2023) – a week-long celebration of engineering and technology careers designed to excite and inspire the next generation.

Now entering its 11th year, the annual celebration will see employers, professional engineering institutions, schools and individuals working in engineering and tech come together to bring diverse engineering careers to life for young people.

This year Tomorrow’s Engineers Week aims to reach over 50,000 students during the week. It’s a unique opportunity for the engineering and technology sector to help students explore the alignment of their skills and passions with the world of engineering and to shine a light on inspirational engineers and technicians, reshaping young people’s perceptions of the industry.

Dr Hilary Leevers, Chief Executive of EngineeringUK, which organises Tomorrow’s Engineers Week, commented: “Tomorrow’s Engineers Week is a brilliant opportunity for all of us to show young people, their influencers and the general public the wonders of modern engineering. We are calling on the whole community, from individual engineers to global engineering companies and professional engineering institutions, to showcase inspiring career stories, diverse role models, future opportunities and the many pathways into the industry.

“We’re also encouraging companies large and small to consider the practical steps they can take to directly support young people. From offering T-levels placements, apprenticeships and work experience to providing school outreach – there are so many ways businesses can help nurture future talent. If we want our sector to thrive, we all have a part to play in ensuring more young people, from all backgrounds, are informed, inspired and progress into engineering and tech careers.”

This year’s celebration will begin with a free, live interactive broadcast for schools on Monday 6 November at 2.00pm, during which guest engineers from companies such as Space SolarRWE and Taylor Woodrow will share their insights into the ways engineering is shaping industries such as entertainment, technology and the environment today.

After the live webinar, students will be able to get immersed in a range of free, curriculum-linked activities throughout the week to excite them about the variety of options open to them. Engineers can help inspire students by answering questions on social media, with a different theme each day of the week: turn your passion into a career, meet the future you, local careers, global impact, think like an engineer.

Today will also see the release of tickets for Tomorrow’s Engineers Live 2024 – taking place on 5 February 2024 in London. The much-anticipated event will bring the engineering and technology community together to share their learnings on how to inspire the next generation of engineers, reach underrepresented groups in engineering and technology, promote technical pathways into the sector and much more.
